Michael Jackson by Jennifer Jeffery

Michael Jackson by Jennifer Jeffery

I like many of you grew up with Michael Jackson.  The first record I ever purchased on my own with my hard earned allowance money was “The Love You Save”.  I saw the Jackson 5 perform this song on” The Ed Sullivan Show” back in 1969 and I will never forget it!  I will also not forget yesterday June 25th as the day we lost this musical icon.

I was luck enough to see Michael Jackson perform in concert several times.  The first concert I saw was at The Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.  It was the Triumph tour and Michael was performing with his brothers, though he had just released his first solo album “Off The Wall” at the same time.  This was in 1979 and to this day it is the BEST concert I have ever been to.  It was in a word “Magical”.  Every time I went to a Michael Jackson concert I would get butterflies in my stomach with anticipation…he was that good!

I believe we will never see another talent like his in our lifetime.  Whatever his problems were, you can’t take away the genius that was Michael Jackson as a performer.  I believe he became a star on the night of “Motown Live 25″ in 1983 when he performed Billie Jean and introduced the world to The Moon Walk …unforgettable!  I have posted links to the video of that performance and a link to an article in Time Magazine on how to do it!  Enjoy them both and the picture of Michael taken by my good friend and talented photographer Jennifer Jeffery!  Feel free to share your memories too!

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Ladies how would you like a free bra?  Soma Intimates is having their Grand Opening in the Barton Creek Square Mall and if you spend $50 you get the bra of your choice absolutely free!  They have so many to choose from including two of my favorites, the Soma Wash and Go Bra,  you simply wash it and throw it in the dryer, and it looks like new and fits like new every time!!  They also have a bra called the Bridgette bra.  This one has a built in camisole at the top so you don’t have to add an extra layer under your clothes!  Such a great idea!  I was in NYC a few weeks ago for Mother’s Day and all I wore was Soma!  It is the most beautiful and comfortable clothing I have ever worn.  Come and see me this Saturday at the new Soma Intimates at the Barton Creek Square Mall and see it all for yourselves!  Soma is located on the first floor new Nordstrom and across from Talbot’s.   I will be there from 3pm til 5pm!  Below is a picture of me with some of the wonderful ladies who work at Soma, you are going to love everything in the store…trust me!  See you Saturday!

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Let me first say that getting in shape is tough work at any age, but after 40 mental is just as important as physical!  I know of where I speak because since just before Thanksgiving I have been on a quest to get my groove back and that has included losing weight!  I have been very successful in this endeavor so far, but the closer I get to my goal , the harder it is mentally.  Well today I saw something that gave me a renewed hope that is helping me kick it into high gear and push to the finish line…the cover of  this weeks people magazine!!  If you have not yet seen it I have posted it here…Valerie Bertinelli…soon to be 49…in a bikini!!

I think it is just fantastic!!  I soon will be posting my before and after pictures for you…not sure about a bikini…yet!!

Lucky Charms!!

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!  I am sure you have had a lucky charm or two in your lifetime.  I have a luck Kennedy half dollar that my grandfather gave me years ago. I always make sure I have it when I travel.   I was looking at a list of the standard good luck charms and symbols and came up with one unusual one!  First of all the standard list is:

4 Leaf Clovers, White Elepant, gold coins, rabbits feet, wishbones and horseshoes!

Then at the bottome of the list I saw Lucky Pig!  That’s right a pig!  I had never heard of that so of course I had to google and find out more.  It turns out in the 18th century in Germany and Austria a “pig” was considered good luck.  It was said if you owned a pig you would never go hungry.  They also had a saying “A Pig in Clover”,  so clover played a part in it anyway.  Below are pictures of postcards from 1905 that show some very lucky pigs!!   The one on the right show’s that the pig means “Prosperite” or prosperity!  I think the whole country can use that lucky charm right now!  Enjoy your St. Patricks Day!!

A Legend Comes to Austin!!

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

I had the pleasure this past weekend of seeing a true music legend perform.  During my career I have seen hundreds of concert performances but only a few true legends.  The Austin Symphony put together a wonderful program featuring Charlie Daniels.  Charlie has been in the music business for just over 50 years now.  His performance with the Austin Symphony was nothing short of phenomenal!

Charlie does it all and makes it look easy!  I had the pleasure of interviewing and meeting Charlie and everyone he meets feels special in his presence, he is one class act!!  If you ever want to see a one of a kind talent see, Charlie Daniels.  He even has his own museum in Nashville!

I also want to thank the Austin Symphony who put together a wonderful presentation of music from classic western’s before Charlie took the stage.  We are so lucky to have so many talented musicians here in Austin!

Happy Birthday Barbie!!!

Monday, March 9th, 2009

barbie-then-and-now.jpgShe is looking good these days…no lipo or botox for this girl, and at 50 she has never looked better!!  Happy Birthday Barbie!  Mattel introduced Barbie on March 9, 1959 and she is still around to make each generation of young girls thrilled and happy!!  Here are a few quick Barbie facts:

When introduced to us in 1959 she cost just  $3.50!

That first year over 300,000 Barbies were sold.

The inventor of the Barbie doll named her after her daughter Barbra , who was not a blonde by the way!

Mattel has introduced an anniversay Barbie with the same black and white swimsuit, just an updated version.

Here’s a toast to Barbie who will most likely be around for another 50 years, may we all be so lucky!!
